Our story
When Dr. Nordhus opened his practice, he made a decision: neither his patients nor he would be governed by insurance companies. So the standard of care here is set by him and his team, with advanced training, modern materials and technology, and higher standards from the dental labs.
For patients without insurance, that became a monthly Membership Plan, and patients tell us it’s better than insurance.

Dr. Byron J. Nordhus, DDS
Raised on a farm near Baileyville, Kansas, he had braces as a teenager and never forgot what a great smile did for his confidence. Now he helps Wichita families get there, and is always attending continuing education classes.

Sedation dentistry
Nervous? You have three ways to relax.
Many people put off the dentist because of anxiety. Dr. Nordhus is friendly, encourages questions, and offers sedation so you can relax in the chair.
Nitrous oxideBreathed through a nose mask. You stay awake and can talk, it wears off quickly, and you can drive yourself home.
Oral sedationA prescribed pill taken before the visit. Very drowsy but conscious; someone drives you there and back.
IV sedationTakes effect almost immediately. You may not remember the procedure at all, and will need someone to drive you home.
Home comfortsA beverage bar, warm blankets, pillows and noise-canceling headphones during treatment.

What people ask before they book.
Do you take my insurance?
Nordhus Dentistry is not in-network with any insurance company. If you have coverage, your plan may still pay toward treatment such as crowns, bridges or dentures, and the office files all the necessary paperwork so you can take full advantage of your benefits. If you have no insurance, the monthly Membership Plan covers your routine care.
How does the Membership Plan work?
You pay a monthly fee instead of an insurance premium: $29 for adults (13 and older), $24 for children (12 and younger) or $59 for patients in periodontal maintenance, plus a $69 lifetime activation fee. Cleanings, doctor exams, needed x-rays and one emergency exam a year are included, with 15% off other treatment (some exclusions may apply). Call the office or sign up online.
I get very nervous at the dentist. What can you do?
Say so when you call. Nitrous oxide relaxes you and wears off quickly, so you can drive yourself home. Oral sedation is a pill taken before the visit, and IV sedation works almost immediately; with either, someone needs to drive you. There are warm blankets, pillows and noise-canceling headphones too.
Do you see children?
Yes. Dr. Lindsay Pauly treats children and adults and looks at how the jaws and airway are developing. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first checkup no later than six months after the first tooth appears, or shortly after the first birthday. Sedation is available for anxious or special-needs children.
Will I be sent to a specialist for implants?
Usually not. Dr. Nordhus places and restores dental implants in this office and plans them with i-CAT 3D imaging. If your jawbone needs building up first, bone grafting and sinus lifts are on the list of treatments here too.
I broke a tooth. What should I do?
Call the office at (316) 721-6730. In one of the practice’s patient videos, Mike broke two front teeth in a fall and was seen by Dr. Nordhus the same day as his accident.
How can I pay for larger treatment?
The office accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover, and financing through CareCredit®, which lets patients who qualify spread the cost over payment plans of up to 60 months.
